Curriculum

At Prince’s Mead we offer a broad and balanced curriculum.  The children are taught to the highest possible standard.  Every teacher is passionate about what they teach, fostering a love of learning in the children.

In Key Stage 1, subjects are taught primarily by the form teacher.  However, specialists take the classes for sport, ICT, music and Modern Foreign Languages.  This continues in Key Stage 2 for Years 3 and 4.  In Years 5 and 6, the children are also taught by specialists for English, mathematics and science, in order to prepare them for entrance examinations to senior school.  The children are placed in ability sets for English and mathematics.

Children in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to develop new skills and hobbies during Carousel. Many different teachers are involved in the implementation of this programme; there is something for everyone – indoor and outdoor activities, IT, Musical, Creative and Academic as well as the inevitable sporting options.  It is a wonderful opportunity for the teachers to share their hobbies with the children and also for the pupils to acquire skills and interests in areas which are not included in the traditional school curriculum.

In addition to this, Year 6 follow the Enterprise initiative, where they are put into teams and have to create a product to sell at the Year 6 Fayre.  This develops vitals skills for learning, life and work, as well as being able to work as part of a team.
