Prep
Prince's Mead Prep, for children aged 7 to 11, offers a broad curriculum and vibrant co-curricular programme to give every pupil the chance to thrive and be prepared for senior school and beyond.
Prince’s Mead is an academic school that prides itself on the breadth and depth of its curriculum, the excellence of its teaching staff and its clear focus on equipping pupils with the skills to become life-long independent learners.
All our academic staff are subject specialists, and all are committed to providing well-paced and stimulating lessons that not only cover the appropriate syllabuses but which also inspire a genuine spirit of enquiry. Our outstanding record in 11+ examination success is important but fostering the life of the mind is perhaps even more valuable.
In Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), subjects are taught primarily by the form teacher. However, specialists take the classes for Sport, Art, Drama, Digital Learning, Music and Modern Foreign Languages.
In Years 5 and 6, pupils are also taught by specialists for English, Mathematics and Science in order to prepare them for entrance examinations to senior school. The children are placed in ability sets for English and Mathematics.

Sport
At Prince's Mead we place a strong emphasis on sport and physical activity as an integral part of our pupils' development. We believe that encouraging participation in sports not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also builds important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, determination, and leadership.
Our dedicated and experienced coaches work with pupils of all levels across a wide variety of seasonal sports.

Leadership Opportunities
Year 6 Prefects
Each term the staff vote for a Head Boy and Head Girl, to lead a team of Year 6 prefects, who have additional responsibilities to conduct around the school. This includes dinning hall and library duties, as well as welcoming parents to the weekly assemblies and playing with the Nursery and Reception children.
School Council
Each term the pupils vote within their forms for one pupil to become their representative on the School Council. Each form representative has to attend weekly meetings of the School Council where they bring forward ideas for changes to school life. For example, new play equipment, new book requests for the library, new menu ideas, or new lunchtime clubs.
Council members also get the privilege of managing the School Council stall at the PMA Summer Fete to fundraise for charities that the pupils have voted for at the start of each year.
Green Team
Our Green Team leads the annual Environmental Review and creates a whole-school Action Plan, enabling everyone to play their part in sustainability. Their efforts have helped Prince’s Mead achieve the highest level of Eco-Schools accreditation: the prestigious Distinction award.

Pastoral Care
& Wellbeing
At Prince’s Mead, our aim is to provide the highest quality pastoral care throughout the school and maintain an environment where each pupil can succeed in every aspect of their education as well as to flourish and thrive as an individual.
We have a dedicated Pastoral Care Team, led by our Deputy Head of Pastoral and the Head of Wellbeing who work closely with our Matron, and the ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant).
From the moment a child joins us we want to ensure they flourish and feel a sense of belonging within the Prince’s Mead family.

Digital Learning
We aim to give our pupils the life-long skills that will enable them to embrace and utilise new technology in a socially responsible and safe way.
As the digital world continues to evolve, children of primary age will be entering jobs in the future that don’t currently exist. At Prince’s Mead, we foster a culture that links all subjects across the school curriculum with digital learning which prepares our pupils for senior school and life beyond.
In digital learning lessons, the pupils primarily use iPads or physical resources, such as Crumble robots or Micro-Bits, to develop a range of skills. As a result, our pupils are confident using a wide range of hardware and software and are diligent learners who value online safety and respect when communicating with one another.
AIM Higher
Inspiring Year 6
Once entrance exams are complete, our Year 6 pupils take part in our exciting AIM Higher programme — a celebration of all they have achieved and a launchpad for what comes next. Designed to broaden horizons, foster independence and develop leadership skills, this unique programme offers a dynamic mix of enrichment opportunities and real-world experiences.
Throughout the summer term, pupils engage in a wide variety of activities, from inspirational career talks by parents to a Shakespeare workshop that brings the Bard’s words to life. Creativity and teamwork take centre stage during our Enterprise Fayre, where pupils design, make and sell their own products to the school community. In the MasterChef Challenge, children cook outdoors on camping stoves, developing resilience and culinary skills alike.
The programme also includes physical challenges such as walking the South Downs and climbing Helvellyn, helping to build confidence, camaraderie and a sense of achievement.
AIM Higher reflects our belief that education should inspire ambition, curiosity and courage. It offers our oldest pupils the chance to shine beyond the classroom, equipping them with lasting memories and vital skills as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey.

Residential Trips
Developing Lifelong Memories
School trips in the Prep School are a highlight of the Prince’s Mead experience, offering adventure, independence and lifelong memories. In Year 3, the pupils enjoy their first residential with a 'sleep over' at school followed by adventurous activities. In Year 4, pupils enjoy a Bushcraft residential where they learn survival skills, teamwork and resilience in the great outdoors. Year 5 take their learning further afield with an exciting trip to Normandy, immersing themselves in French culture, language and history. By Year 6, pupils are ready for a final adventure: a camping and watersports residential packed with fun, challenge and friendship.
Co-curricular
Clubs
The co-curricular programme at Prince’s Mead Prep is full of exciting opportunities for pupils to challenge themselves, express their individuality and develop new talents.
Whether it’s the focus and discipline of karate and fencing, the creativity of cookery, art and crochet, or the energy of football, gymnastics, yoga and street dance, pupils are encouraged to dive into activities that spark their enthusiasm.
Our clubs also nurture strategic thinking and personal interests, from chess and strategical gaming to quiet reflection in yoga. With a choice of both indoor and outdoor activities, there's something to inspire every pupil.
Teachers lead many of the sessions, giving pupils the chance to see familiar faces in new and dynamic ways, and creating a strong sense of community and collaboration.
For those who wish to complete homework or have a quieter end to their day, Prep Club offers a supportive and calm environment.
We believe that a broad co-curricular life helps pupils to flourish—building confidence, deepening friendships and encouraging a lifelong love of learning beyond the classroom.

The Head's Recommendation
Senior Schools & Scholarships
Following the announcement of the merger with King Edward VI (KES) Family, we are delighted to offer all our pupils the Head’s Recommendation Pathway. We use our assessment data, together with form and specialist teacher input, to build a clear picture of every child’s classwork and academic potential, as well as their social and emotional ‘readiness’ for KES Senior School.
The Head’s Recommendation provides a guaranteed place in Year 7 for pupils who achieve an appropriate standard and would thrive at KES Senior School more widely. This represents a significant benefit for our families, offering a more secure and less stressful route to KES, whilst maintaining the rigorous standards that ensure all pupils who progress are well-prepared for success there.
If you'd like to explore other Senior School options then our Pathway Programme in Years 5 and 6 will focus minds on competitive senior school entrance examinations through meticulous academic preparation in English, Mathematics, Science, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Preparing pupils for entry to senior school, both day and boarding.
Prince’s Mead also supports 13+ assessments in Year 6 for those pupils seeking a place at Public Schools that accept pupils from Year 9.

Minibuses
a Safe Route to School
At Prince’s Mead, we are proud to offer a free minibus service for pupils, helping to make daily journeys easier, greener, and more enjoyable for families. Covering a wide area, our service brings children to school safely and on time, ready for a full and exciting day of learning.
Our fleet of minibuses is driven by a dedicated team of MiDAS-accredited school staff who know the children well and ensure every journey is warm, welcoming, and secure.
The service runs three times a day - morning, after school (4.20pm), and after clubs (5.20pm) - and integrates smoothly with our extensive co-curricular programme and sports fixtures.
Safety is always our top priority: all minibuses undergo daily checks and termly inspections, and are fitted with height-adjustable seat belts, removing the need for booster seats.
Parents appreciate the convenience and reliability of the service, which also helps to reduce school gate traffic and supports a more sustainable school run.
