Sport

At Prince's Mead we place a strong emphasis on sport and physical activity as an integral part of our pupils' development. We believe that encouraging participation in sports not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also builds important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, determination, and leadership.

Our dedicated and experienced coaches work with pupils of all levels across a wide variety of seasonal sports including rugby, hockey, football, netball, basketball, dance and gymnastics, cricket, cross-country, tennis, swimming, and athletics.

With 13 acres of grounds, the school has it's own athletics bowl with an 200m running track and long jump, there is also a cross-country track, cricket pitches, football and rugby pitches, netball and tennis courts, large multi-purpose sports hall with mounted gymnastics bars, basket ball and badminton courts. Our minibuses transport Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to their weekly swimming lessons at the Olympic sized pool at Winchester Leisure Centre, and Years 4, 5 and 6 back from their weekly early morning Swim Squad training.

Matches
Promoting Healthy Competition

Pupils, from Year 3 upwards, participate in inter-school matches, tournaments and fixtures, promoting healthy competition, while fostering a strong sense of school spirit and pride.

At Prince's Mead we believe that all children should have the opportunity to participate in the sport they choose and, therefore, we allow each pupil to choose whether they want to play football or netball in the Autumn and hockey or rugby in the Spring - with all pupils playing cricket in the Summer.

Parents and grandparents are welcome to come and cheer on their child's team at both home and away matches. After which they can discuss the game while enjoying our delicious match tea.

 Sports Clubs

At Prince’s Mead, sport is at the heart of our co-curricular life, giving pupils the chance to be active, adventurous and confident while discovering what they enjoy most. From their earliest days in Pre-Prep, children can try out energetic clubs such as football, tennis, gymnastics and fencing, building coordination, teamwork and a love of movement in a fun, supportive environment.

As they move into Prep, the opportunities broaden further. Pupils can embrace the discipline of karate, the creativity of street dance and yoga, or continue to refine skills in football, gymnastics and fencing. Each club is designed to challenge and inspire, helping pupils grow in resilience while expressing their individuality through sport.

With dedicated teachers and specialist coaches leading many sessions, our pupils benefit from expert guidance as well as encouragement from familiar faces. Whether they are discovering a new talent or honing existing skills, sport at Prince’s Mead fosters teamwork, perseverance and a sense of achievement that lasts well beyond the playing field.
