The Prince's Mead Green Team Launch the Cut your Carbon Challenge

This November, Prince’s Mead pupils are taking part in the Eco-Schools Cut Your Carbon Challenge, joining thousands of young people across the UK in taking simple, meaningful actions to reduce carbon emissions — one small step at a time.

The nationwide initiative encourages children and their families to make small changes that together make a big difference for our planet. Here at Prince’s Mead, pupils are taking on the challenge as part of an exciting House competition. Each time a pupil completes one of the challenges at home, they’ll earn points for their House – and the House with the most completed challenges will be crowned the winner of our Cut Your Carbon Challenge Trophy!

The six challenges are:

Veggie Vibes – Make three evening meals plant-based across the month.

Ditch the Drive – Choose to walk, cycle, or scoot for at least three journeys instead of driving.

Meal Plan-et – Plan your meals for a week to help reduce food waste.

Cool It – Lower your washing machine temperature to 30°C for three washes this month.

Device Free – Enjoy a full ‘device-free’ day with family or friends.

Drop It Like It’s Hot – Turn down your heating by 1°C for a week.

Through these simple actions, pupils will discover how everyday decisions can reduce carbon emissions and help care for our world.

Prince’s Mead has been a proud member of the Eco-Schools programme since 2023 and was awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Badge of Distinction in 2024, recognising our continued commitment to environmental education and sustainability. Taking part in the Cut Your Carbon Challenge is another exciting step in our ongoing Eco-Schools journey, empowering our pupils to make a positive difference both at school and at home.

We can’t wait to see whether Beech, Oak, or Chestnut House will take home the trophy and to celebrate all the brilliant efforts of our pupils and their families along the way.
