In the weeks leading up to Anti-Bullying Week, the School Council took the lead by designing creative cartoon scenes that illustrated different types of bullying and the practical steps their peers can take to resolve uncomfortable situations — whether they take place face to face or online. Their thoughtful and imaginative ideas helped launch a competition for all year groups to design their own anti-bullying poster or cartoon.
Last Friday in Prayers, the much-anticipated results were announced. Our talented winners were invited to enjoy a celebratory hot chocolate and croissant at breaktime, a small treat to acknowledge the big message behind their artwork. Their posters and cartoons will be proudly displayed around the school to help remind everyone of the positive impact we can make when we use our ‘Power for Good’.
Anti-Bullying Week was also filled with thoughtful activities across the school. Following on from World Kindness Day, Reception pupils took part in a heart-warming project, secretly writing kindness notes and drawing cheerful pictures for their friends. Their excitement as they shared these anonymous acts of kindness set a beautiful tone for the week.
In the Pre-Prep, a special assembly on kindness captured the children’s full attention. Miss Hodson and her Year 2 helpers delivered a powerful demonstration using a tube of toothpaste: with every unkind word, a squeeze of toothpaste was pushed out. When the children were asked to put it back, they soon understood how difficult that was. The message was simple and memorable: once words are spoken, they cannot be taken back.
The Pre-Prep Kindness Tree also blossomed throughout the week, with pupils adding leaves describing acts of kindness they had experienced. By Friday, it had become a vibrant celebration of thoughtfulness, empathy, and the small moments that make our school community so special.
A huge well done to our competition winners and to all pupils who took part with such enthusiasm. Together, we continue to use our ‘Power for Good’ to stand up for kindness and to ensure that Prince’s Mead remains a place where every child feels safe, valued, and supported.
