At Prince’s Mead, curiosity doesn’t stop when the school bell rings for the summer – it simply moves outdoors! We’re excited to launch our Summer of Science, a fun-filled collection of seasonal science challenges designed for young explorers to enjoy at home during the holidays.

Our downloadable Summer of Science worksheet is packed with simple yet fascinating activities that encourage children to observe, experiment and discover the wonders of the world around them – all while making the most of the sunshine.

What’s inside?

From messy experiments to nature-inspired investigations, these challenges are perfect for sparking scientific thinking in everyday moments. Here are just a few of the hands-on activities your child can enjoy:

🌱 Plant a seed and watch it grow

Learn about life cycles and responsibility by nurturing a plant from sprout to bloom.

🧊 Frozen toys rescue mission

Freeze toys in ice and discover how salt and warm water can speed up the melting process – science and play combined!

✈️ Paper aeroplane test flight

Design, build and fly different paper aeroplanes to investigate which shapes fly the farthest and why.

💧 Puddle tracking with chalk

Trace around a puddle every hour and observe how it changes throughout the day. What happens to the water as time goes by?

🌼 Daisy dyeing experiment

Add food colouring to water and watch white daisies slowly change colour – a brilliant introduction to how plants absorb water.

🌋 Make your own volcano

Mix vinegar and baking powder inside a bottle to create an exciting, foaming reaction that mimics a volcanic eruption!

Why take part?

Our Summer of Science encourages children to ask questions, test ideas and observe results, all key skills for budding scientists. It also offers a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy screen-free time together and create lasting memories through discovery and play.

Whether it’s a rainy afternoon or a sunny morning in the garden, there’s something in our worksheet to spark every child’s imagination.

Just colour in each task as it is completed and don’t forget to share your science fun with us on social media using #PMSummerOfScience – we’d love to see what your young scientists get up to!
