Headmaster’s Notes

18th January 19

It has been great to be back into the swing of things this term, and it feels as if we haven’t ever been away. The enthusiasm from both staff and pupils is infectious, and there is certainly an air of positive determination around the school. In addition to written examinations just over the horizon, a large number of pupils in Year 6 are in the middle of senior school interviews. These can, at times, be rather daunting affairs and we do our utmost to give them appropriate support in preparation; however the most important thing we encourage them to do is to be themselves, as in doing so those who meet them will experience how confident, aspirational, and engaging individuals they all are. Their application towards such challenges has been most encouraging to witness.

At Prince’s Mead we enjoy actively promoting the values of democracy and respect and tolerance of other people. It is really important that we continue to take the time to listen and respond to the views of pupils too. How fitting it was that the School Council met with none other than our local MP this morning as he visited the school. I am sure Mr Brine was not expecting a gentle ride during his visit and the School Council certainly took his mind off Brexit (for a time) as we discussed many topical issues.

Congratulations for our Sportsmen and Sportswomen who have performed brilliantly this last week, particularly in competitive swimming where they continue to go from strength to strength as this week’s results testify.

I do hope you have a very happy weekend.
