Making Time for the Great Outdoors

28th June 19

What a pleasure it was to soak up the atmosphere at our final PMA event of the academic year last weekend as we reflected on the many wonderfully successful events they have organised over the past year. This team of volunteers, under the leadership of Mrs Bowyer, selflessly go out of their way to serve others and do an outstanding job in raising funds for the school and its pupils, as well as worthy causes and charities outside our school gates, whilst at the same time, bringing our Prince’s Mead community here ever closer together. The Fete and Campfest could not have been a happier occasion for pupils and parents alike and it provided an opportunity too to raise our glasses to our PMA. One could sense some healthy competition amongst the fathers when it came to the fine display of tentage and camping equipment that appeared on the lower cricket field. The Headmaster’s humble hiking tent seemed very inadequate by comparison, or at least his children suddenly seemed to think so.

We look forward to welcoming you all to our Speech Day and Sports Day next Friday. Prize Days are always special occasions to draw the school community together, and I am very much looking forward to celebrating the achievements of this last year.  We are honoured that our outgoing Chairman of Governors, Mr Brian Welch, will address us and present prizes to our pupils.

With Wimbledon starting in earnest next week, we are reminded that Prince’s Mead Sports Day is a far more significant event in the sporting calendar and one that celebrates the best of healthy rivalry amongst pupils, staff and may I even suggest parents!  The support for every single competitor in every single event will be most humbling to witness and I am sure that next Friday’s gathering will reflect the Prince’s Mead spirit in all its glory.  I look forward to seeing you all, and your picnics, on what will be a very happy occasion.

On a sporting note, congratulations must go to our fifteen Sailing Club sailors who achieved podium positions in the annual SWAC Schools Summer Regatta. Yet again, an excellent all-round sailing performance on a beautiful afternoon.

I do hope that you have a happy and restful weekend.
