17th January 20
We are thrilled to announce that the Prince’s Mead Concert Choir has reached the semi-final of the BBC Songs of Praise Junior Choir of the Year 2020 Competition!
Following the excitement of last year’s Prep School Choir of the Year competition in London where we were overjoyed with our runners-up position, the competitive bug has taken hold of the Concert Choir and so, in December, we decided to have a try at the BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir of the Year for their competition in 2020.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations throughout the whole school in December, not to mention Common Entrance prep, the Concert Choir met on a couple of occasions and made a recording which we then sent as our audition offering to the BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir of the Year website.
We were amazed and delighted to hear that our audition recording was successful and that we have been invited to participate in the Semi-Finals against 4 other schools of primary aged children. So, on March 21st, we’ll be making our way to the Warwick Arts Centre to perform in a 1200 seat hall before a panel of judges and TV cameras. And, hopefully, later the same day, we’ll also be competing in the final competing against two other schools for the title.
We’ll also be welcoming a small team from the BBC on 10th February to Prince’s Mead who will interview some Concert Choir members and glean a feel for the school as a whole. This is a very exciting time for our young singers, and a great opportunity to show what we can do, and to meet and learn from other singers and schools.
